Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 24, 2026
EDUrain Inc. ("EDUrain", "we", "us", or "our") operates the EDUrain web platform and mobile application (collectively, the "Service"). This policy describes the information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you consent to the practices below.
Information You Provide
- Account information: name, email address, phone number (optional), school affiliation, user type (student, landlord, college administrator, etc.).
- Profile content: profile photo, bio, academic information (major, graduation year, GPA — student roommate matching only), housing and roommate preferences, social handles (all optional).
- User-generated content: messages you send to other users, forum posts, listing photos and descriptions (landlords), tour requests, rental applications, and reports you file against other users.
- Payment details: for paid features and rent payments, Stripe collects your card or bank information directly. We never see or store full payment credentials; we only retain a Stripe customer ID and receipts.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: device model, operating system version, app version, and language.
- Push notification tokens: used to deliver message, tour, and application notifications you have opted into.
- Log and diagnostic data: crash reports, error traces, and server request logs used to diagnose problems and prevent abuse.
- Approximate location from IP address: used for fraud prevention and to default the housing search to a relevant region. We do not collect precise GPS location on mobile.
Information We Do Not Collect
- Precise GPS location.
- Audio recordings or microphone input.
- Your device contacts or calendar (unless you explicitly choose to add an EDUrain event to your calendar, which requires your one-time calendar permission).
- Browsing history outside of the Service.
How We Use Information
- Provide and operate the Service, including authentication, roommate matching, housing search, messaging, tours, applications, and payments.
- Communicate with you about account activity, support, important changes, and notifications you have opted into.
- Keep the Service safe: detect spam, harassment, impersonation, scams, and other prohibited behavior.
- Improve the Service by analyzing aggregated usage patterns and diagnosing bugs and crashes.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:
- With other users when you choose to: profile information you publish is visible to other students searching for roommates or housing; direct messages are delivered to the recipient you chose.
- With your college or university, if you are using a college-affiliated portal, we share limited account and enrollment-status information to confirm eligibility for the portal.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf under written agreements: Amazon Web Services (authentication, hosting), Convex (application database), Stripe (payments), Expo (push notifications), and Google (maps).
- In response to lawful requests from governmental authorities, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, the safety of our users, or the public.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you and honor the commitments in this policy.
Safety and User-Generated Content
You can report other users or block them at any time from their profile or chat thread, and you can review and undo any blocks from Settings → Privacy & Safety → Blocked Users. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team; we may remove content or suspend accounts that violate our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
Data Retention
We retain your account and profile data for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time by emailing info@edurain.org; we will delete or de-identify your data within 30 days, except records we are required to keep for tax, fraud-prevention, or legal purposes.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage for secrets on your device, access controls on our systems, and periodic review of our providers. No service is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Your Choices
- Access, update, or delete most of your profile information from the app and web settings screens.
- Disable push notifications from your device's system settings.
- Request a copy or deletion of your data by emailing info@edurain.org.
- Depending on where you live (e.g., California, the EU/UK), you may have additional rights including the right to object to processing, restrict processing, or file a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact us to exercise those rights.
Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for users 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, email info@edurain.org and we will promptly delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated policy here and, when appropriate, notify you through the Service. Your continued use of the Service after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
